Junior Golf Program

Junior Golf Clinic -  During June there is a junior golf "clinic" run by PGA Head Golf Professional Jason Marvelli.  Golfers between the ages of 8 and 17 are welcome to participate.  Jr. Golfers under the age of 8 will be considered if the parents feel the child is ready for this type of activity. The juniors are divided into age divisions based on the number of participants with each division having one hour instructional sessions.  Look for details in the May newsletter.  Advanced sign-up is required.  There is a small charge for members.  Nonmembers are also welcome.

Monday Morning Junior Golf – Monday mornings during the Summer Break the East/Original Nine will be reserved for our Jr. Golfers.  We are encouraging parents to bring out their children during the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  We will have the entire east nine set aside for these players.  We will have a shorter 6 hole course set up on holes 13 – 18 for those juniors who are not quite ready for an entire round of nine.  Parents are highly encouraged to come out during this time to help their children adjust to being on the course alone.  However, it is not mandatory.  We will be asking for some volunteers from our membership to assist our younger members until they feel comfortable on the course and understand the rules and etiquette.  This is a new program so if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact your golf professional.  Please note that adults coming out to play during this time will be allowed to tee off on hole #1.  They must however play the golf course in the order it is intended to be played with the understanding if they play their first nine extremely quick they may catch up with some of our junior golfers on the east nine.  Junior Golf will shift to Tuesday morning if there is an event on Monday morning.

2) “Soft Spikes” are required.
3) Proper golf attire is required. No tank tops or muscle shirts. Collared golf shirts preferred.

5) The ball rack: We currently do not have starting times. When your group is here, place a ball in the ball rack.
6) Carts: Keep carts on the paths as much as possible. If you leave the path use the 90 degree rule. Obey all cart signs.
7) Wednesday is Ladies' Day from May 1 to September 15th. Only women may tee off after 12 noon. Men teeing off before noon may complete their round and they should be off the course by around 4:00 pm. The Clubhouse remains open to all until 3:00 pm. Men finishing their round after 3 pm may go briefly to the locker room, but should not hang out in the bar area.
8) Thursday is Men's Day from May 1 to September 16th. Only men may tee off after 12 noon. Women teeing off before noon may complete their round and they should be off the course by around 4:00 pm. The Clubhouse remains open to all until 3:00 pm. Women finishing their round after 3 pm may go briefly to the locker room, but should not hang out in the bar area.
9) There are some times that are restricted to adults only. Please see page 6 for the Junior Golf Rules.
10) Please replace your divots and fix your ball marks.

The Course Layout
The course is played as a "links style" 18 hole course.  To play the course links style players cross to the west side of Country Club Road after playing #1 and play holes 2-10 ( the new west nine).  Players then come back across the road for holes 11-18 ("old" holes 2-9).  Those wishing to play just the old "east nine" may "cut-over" [go from hole 1 to hole 11(old hole 2)] only under certain conditions.  Those conditions are:
1) 18 hole players, those coming from hole 10 to 11 have the right of way.  If you want to "cut-over" and you can see someone on 10 green or on the cart path going from 10 green to 11 tee you are not allowed to cut- over.  This does NOT mean you alternate in.  If there is steady play, you may not be able to "cut-over".
2) It is strongly recommended that players cutting-over play the upper tee, which means use the gold or red tees.  This is to help make sure that players cutting-over will be out of range before a group playing the "links" layout gets to the tee.
3) You should not expect to be able to cut-over on Thursday afternoon or on weekends until late in the afternoon because play is usually steady during those times.
Note:  The maintenance staff schedules their workload believing that most golfers play the course links style as intended.  As a result, if you cutover, you may run into the maintenance staff mowing rough or fairways, greens or collars, or cutting holes.  The maintenance staff will have the right of way in this circumstance.  As a player who has cutover, you should not expect the maintenance crew to stop their work.  The player who has cutover should instead expect to have to wait or skip a shot or a hole to go around the crew.
This cut-over option allows players trying to get in a quick nine or just a few holes a convenient option.  If everyone signs in it helps players starting out know if cut-over may be possible.  They can check for groups starting about 2 hours earlier.  This cutover option has been working so far and should continue to work if everyone uses common sense.  If there are problems this option may have to be eliminated.

EXCEPTION FOR MEN’S AND WOMEN’S LEAGUE
The course plays as 2 separate nines for Men’s and Women’s League play starting at 4 pm.  League players will play either the old east nine (hole #1 and 11-18) or the west nine (holes 2-10) . There are special "East-West" scorecards to use for leagues.  Players starting their round earlier in the day should be aware that league play starting on both nines may interrupt their play and make allowance for this.  A difficulty with this arrangement is going out and back to the "west nine".  Players going out and back via the #1 cart path need to be careful not to interfere with those playing #1.  If you are playing #1 during league play, be aware that players may be going to or from the west nine and do not hit if they are in range.

NOTE: The course is open for regular play on Tuesday nights.  There has been only a short wait on the tees while league players are teeing off.

When a space becomes available it is offered to the next person on the waiting list. Cart shed and trail fees are annual nonrefundable fees. Cart Rules

2. Use the 90 degree rule.
3. Keep carts on the paths near the greens and tees.
4. Keep carts on the paths on all par 3s.
5. Cart path only policy - Please obey the Cart Path Only signs.  There are often issues taking place with course maintenance that are not obvious.  The maintenance staff  and Greens Committee will try to close only those sections of the course that are too wet.  This will likely take the form of closing individual holes.  or sections of holes.

Other Club Rules, Policies and Information:

Dress Code - The current policy prohibits tank tops or muscle shirts. Unhemmed cuttoffs, gym shorts or t-shirts with suggestive sayings are also inappropriate. Collared golf shirts are preferred. The goal is to allow casual dress, but still have a neat appearance. Each member is responsible for making sure guests are properly attired.

Early Morning Weekend Play - In order to allow Joe and his staff the time to mow greens and prepare the course properly for the days play, golfers teeing off before the times shown in the table below are required to play the east nine first.  To play their second nine they must put a ball in the ball-rack and start on #1 again to get to the west nine. Golfers teeing off after the designated time are required to move to the west nine after playing #1.  Rather than prohibiting early morning play, as is done at many courses, the Board felt this was a good compromise to allow those wanting to play very early to do so and still provide the time Joe and his staff needs to get their work done.  The designated time will be clearly posted on a sign on the first tee.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Designated Start Times:                        April – 7:30 am              May – 7:00 am              June& July – 6:30 am                                                    August – 7:00 am          Sept. – 7:30 am             Oct. – 8:00 am
NOTE: Early and late season frost may require later start times.

Leave of Absence Guidelines for Injury or Illness - The by-laws allow the Board of Directors to approve “leaves of absence” on a case by case basis.  Due to increasing requests for leaves of absence due to injury/illness the following guidelines will be used as the basis for approving those leaves:

  1. This is NOT intended to be for short term illness or injury.  The illness/injury should be expected to keep the member from playing for 3 months or more.
  2. The leave (if approved) would begin on the 1st of the month following the illness or injury. The leave would end on the 1st of the month in which the member is capable of resuming play.
  3. The member would pay $20/mo social dues during the leave.
  4. Leaves would not normally include the 4 winter months of November – February.  Normal dues would be paid during those months.  Members whose injury/illness will cause them to miss an entire golf season can petition the board to have those months included.  NOTE: Members who expect to be on leave for 12 months or more should consider the “drop to social” option.
  5. All golfers on a family membership must be affected.  In the case of a couple where both members play, there will not normally be a reduction in dues if one member is affected.

Return from Social Status: Golfing members who drop to social membership status may return to golf membership status as follows:
1) If the member has been a social member for less than 12 months they must pay back golf dues (the dues they would have paid if they remained golfing members) up to a maximum of 7 months dues.
2) If the member has been a social member for more than 12 months they may return to golf status by paying an initiation fee equal to the difference between the current initiation fee and the initiation fee at the time they dropped to social status. (This may be $0)

In each case, if there is a waiting list, they will be placed on the list as if they were a new member applying for membership.

Bag Tags - The Country Club supplies bag tags for each member.  This is to help the staff and other members identify who is a member.  Pick yours up in the clubhouse.

Morning Maintenance - During May through September one nine may be closed in the morning so that the maintenance staff can do needed work uninterrupted by golfers.  This could be any morning, not just Monday mornings. This typically involves the spraying of pesticides that need to dry before golfers can reenter.  The superintendent will open the nine as soon as possible. This policy helps to keep the course in top shape. Please check with the clubhouse to see what the course status is before every round.  Maintenance needs to be based on weather, not a certain day of the week.
