INDIANOLA COUNTRY CLUB NEWSLETTER
September, 2011

President’s Message

Congratulations are in order to Vickie Andersen and Julie Frankin, each having a hole-in-one in August. Also congrats to Matt Jones who shot a 64, yes a 64, 8 birdies, 1 bogey and 9 pars. We don’t actually keep records as to the lowest round every shot here, but that is the lowest I’ve seen and I’ve been around here awhile. Nice round Matt.

Pro’s Corner:

Don't forget to sign up for the fall tournaments as they are quickly approaching! The Ryder Cup tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 18th. This event is always a popular one. Tee times will begin at 7:30. This is a members only event in which you pick your own partner and play nine holes of best shot, nine holes of best ball and nine holes of alternate shot. Sign up is already underway and early morning tee times are already filling up so don't delay. Also coming up in the near future is the Indianola Country Club 4 - Man Best Shot which is scheduled on Sunday, October 2nd with a 10:00 shotgun start. This event is open to both members and non members. Players will be allowed to form their own 4-somes for this event. The field will be limited to the first 36 teams that sign up.

Congratulations to the winners of the August golf tournaments. This years winners of the Sole Survivor were as follows......

From the Clubhouse/Social Committee:

Update on the east nine cart path replacement. Grimes asphalt got in finally in July and completed the new cart paths as with any heavy construction project there is sometimes collateral damage to areas around the construction site. This project was no different.  We have 11, 891 lineal feet of cart path on the east nine so this was to be expected . Areas that are not complete yet are the old spurs that came off the cart paths and went nowhere such as numbers 1 , 11, 13, 14,  these areas will have the old concrete removed and will be back filled and seeded with grass this will be welcomed by all as less hard surface to bounce golf balls off of . There are also a few places where the new asphalt was not done to specifications and these will be addressed at the same time.  These items should all be addressed and finished up by the end of September.  Any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Please bring your friends and family out for a nice lunch or Friday Night Special wish changes weekly. We look forward to serving you and don't forget to hold any meetings or special events you might have coming up in our large dining room.

Thank You,
Connie White

From the Greens Committee/Superintendent:

  • If you drive a cart to the range, the preferred route is down #1 fairway cart path, through the maintenance area to the cart path between the tee area and the site of the practice green.  Please be courteous to golfer teeing off on #1as they have the right-of-way.
  • When returning to the clubhouse, be careful and watch for golfers teeing off on #1.  Do not drive up #1 cart path toward the clubhouse if golfers are teeing off.
  • The cart path on the range is only wide enough for 1 cart.  Please observe cart traffic and keep your cart wheels on the concrete so we don’t kill the sod/grass bordering the path.
  • We will be hitting balls up the hill diagonally, northwest to southeast.
  • Observe car traffic and try not to hit balls near the street. Please try to avoid hitting into the trees. Intentional targeting of houses, cars, the creek or any other areas not a part of the range will not be tolerated.
  • Balls will be placed on the driving range in the morning.
  • Fill in your divots following your practice session with the divot mix provided.
  • Stay off of the practice green.  That area is prepped and under construction.  The short game practice area will be open sometime next Spring.
  • Finally, the driving range is for full golfing members only.  The Simpson College Mens and Womens golf teams may also use the range.  We all need to police this.  If you see someone hitting balls that you don’t know, introduce yourself and ask about their membership.  We want people to want to want to use our range, but we want them as members to do so.
  • The range will require maintenance from time to time, like mowing for instance.  Because our mowers do not have protective cages like the ball-picker will, the range will close when the mowers, or other maintenance equipment, are on it.

The GUR bunkers on #15 and #18 will be filled in and sodded in the near future.  The plan is to have the one on #15 be rough, perhaps even longer rough, like a grass bunker to protect this short par 4.  The one on #18 will be treated and maintained as a collection area.
As always, please contact a member of the Greens Committee with any questions or concerns.
