INDIANOLA COUNTRY CLUB NEWSLETTER
JULY 2010

Presidents Message

Our New Member Special has resulted in over 25 new members this Spring.  We are however, still about 15 members below where we were last year.  Dues revenue is down slightly, but increases in guest fees and food revenues have helped.  The Friday night dinners have been particularly successful.  Thanks to all who have helped support the club by bringing out guests or taking advantage of the clubs dinning opportunities.  The Membership Committee is working on a Fall Membership Special to help increase our membership level.  With your continued support we will have another relatively successful year during the current challenging economic times.

Tournament Results

Congratulations to the recent tournament winners.  The team of Tom Homan, Roger Overman, Murphy Waggoner and Ryan St. John won the Memorial Day Tournament with at 58.  In the Fathers Day Tournament, Dale and Kyle Matzen were first in the father/son division shooting a 68, while Mike and Katie Schenfeld captured the father/daughter division with a 73.  All tournament results can be found on the website at http://www.indianolacountryclub.com/golftournaments.html.

From the Greens Committee

In case there was any doubt – the golf course is wet!  I saw on the news Sunday night that for June, Indianola has had 13.58 inches of rain.  That’s between 8 and 9 inches ABOVE NORMAL!  Joe and his staff have rebuilt the crossings on the west side multiple times.  They have also done an outstanding job of keeping the course open and playable while faced with miserable conditions.
The excessive rain also underscores the importance of getting the crossing project we had hoped to start last Fall completed.  Because of this it is likely that we will be closing the west nine in early Fall to get that work done.  Our last “official” golf event is scheduled for the first Sunday in October.  We may close the west nine any time after that.  We may also extend the contract to work on all of the crossings.  The board continues to investigate our options.  We will keep you informed.
We will continue to provide the best playing conditions we can.  Your help will be appreciated.  Please observe the “cart paths only” signs when they are up.  Obeying them when they are up means they will be up a lot less.  Also when on the cart paths, please try to stay on the cart paths.  If there is a puddle, slow down but keep your wheels on the hard surface.  And, as always, please fix your ball marks and divots.
The Green’s Committee

The Driving Range

The ad hoc Driving Range Committee has begun meeting to get the driving range project underway.  That group is chaired by Mike Lathrop with members Jon Schuttinga, Ron Bright and Kevin Halterman.  Jason Marvelli and Joe Burke serve as ex-officio members.
Our hope is that we will have the range ready early in the 2011 golf season.  With that in mind it is likely you may see some work on the site very soon.  Assuming we achieve the goal of being open for the 2011 golf season, the range may not be full service at that time.  It may take longer to get an established short-game practice area (greens and bunkers) in place.  The most significant problem appears to be access related.  The early planning calls for the range to play from the northwest corner to the southeast corner.  At its longest point the area measures 298 yards.  If you have comments or ideas please see a committee member.
